getting started:




There are very few people even interested in climbing around here, let alone actual active climbers, and
it occurs to me I don't have a "so you'd like to be a climber" page here, so here goes. I'll try to provide
info on what you need to get started.

I never had anyone to mentor me, so I started out with some good gear and some bad gear, some good
practices and some bad practices. I've learned over the years and can share some wisdom with hind-sight
on what you need to start.

My first climbing gear was a rappelling harness, a pair of ascenders, and a length of rope from a hardware
store. I was already free-climbing trees, and this gave me better opportunities where branches weren't close
enough to just scamper up.
